National Awareness Day For Healing For Survivors Of Sexual Abuse

This day is designed to allow survivors, therapists, and support groups and agencies to celebrate public awareness nationwide. Although each city may have its own way of celebrating, the following are some suggested activities. We are currently in the process of establishing a national awareness month and a national awareness day for survivors of sexual abuse. This involves the help of a member of Congress.

  1. Hold a public gathering where everyone can light a candle.
  2. Invite guest speakers on therapy for survivors.
  3. Conduct a prayer service for both the abused and the abusers.
  4. Sing songs of freedom.
  5. Consider holding an athletic event, which can be a fund raiser for local support programs. A 5K run or walk or a 10K run could attract participants who could spread the message.
  6. Invite area high school students to compete.
